Everything you need to know about our GLP-1 programs — semaglutide, tirzepatide, and the TonedMD approach.

GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) receptor agonists are a class of medications originally developed for type 2 diabetes that have been shown to be highly effective for weight loss. They work by mimicking a hormone your gut naturally releases after eating, which signals your brain that you're full, slows digestion, and reduces appetite.

At TonedMD we offer both semaglutide (the active ingredient in Ozempic® and Wegovy®) and tirzepatide (the active ingredient in Mounjaro® and Zepbound®), along with non-GLP plans, peptide therapy, B12 injections, and lipotropic shots for patients who prefer or require a different approach.

Most healthy adults who have struggled with weight loss through diet and exercise alone, and who have a BMI of 27 or above (or 25+ with a weight-related health condition such as high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, or pre-diabetes), are potential candidates.

GLP-1 medications are not appropriate for everyone. During your free initial consultation, our provider will review your medical history, current medications, and health goals to determine whether a GLP-1 plan — or an alternative protocol — is the right fit for you.

Your journey begins with a free consultation — in-office in Cedarhurst or via telehealth. If you're a candidate, your provider will create a personalized plan that typically includes a starting dose of semaglutide or tirzepatide, administered once weekly as a subcutaneous injection (which we teach you to do at home).

Doses are titrated upward gradually over several weeks to minimize side effects and maximize results. We pair medication with nutrition guidance and lifestyle support, and check in regularly to adjust your protocol as you progress. Most patients begin to notice appetite changes within the first 1–2 weeks.

Clinical trials have shown average weight loss of 15–20% of body weight over 12–16 months with semaglutide, and up to 20–22% with tirzepatide, when combined with lifestyle changes. Individual results vary based on starting weight, adherence, diet, and activity level.

Many of our patients notice meaningful appetite reduction within the first month, and visible changes by months 2–3. We focus on sustainable, medically supervised progress — not crash dieting — so results are built to last.

The most commonly reported side effects are gastrointestinal — nausea, mild bloating, or reduced appetite — and are usually most noticeable during the dose escalation phase. Most patients find they diminish significantly after 4–6 weeks as the body adjusts.

Serious adverse effects are uncommon but exist; your TonedMD provider will review your individual risk profile and contraindications during your consultation. We do not prescribe GLP-1 medications to patients with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN2 syndrome.

We offer transparent, competitive pricing for our weight-loss programs — book your free consult to receive a personalized quote based on the protocol that's right for you. Our team will walk you through all costs upfront with no surprises.

Insurance coverage for GLP-1 medications varies widely. We can provide documentation to support an insurance claim, and many patients use HSA or FSA funds. Our telehealth option also makes the program accessible regardless of your location within New York.

It starts with a free consultation — either in our Cedarhurst, NY office or via telehealth. Book directly through our website or by calling/texting the clinic. There's no obligation; your provider will simply learn about your goals and history, and let you know what programs you qualify for.

If you decide to move forward, most patients can begin their program within the same week. Safe, medically supervised weight loss using GLP-1 & non-GLP plans, peptides, B12 injections, and nutrition support — all coordinated by our team.
